It is an integral part of historic downtown Nanaimo and the greater Vancouver Island community. Job Title: Guesthouse Assistant Manager (NOC 0632)

Term of employment: Permanent

Wage: $29.00 per hour

Working hours: 30 hours per week

Work Location: Nanaimo, BC

Language: English


Job duties and representatives:

  • Assist the Manager to manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, motivating, assigning activities, training, and policy and procedural assessment; resolve guesthouse issues and problems in order to ensure that day-to-day operation run smoothly and continuously
  • Assist to develop and evaluate polices and procedures; Ensure full compliance to guesthouse operating controls, procedures and service standards
  • Assist the Manager in in all aspects of business planning
  • Assist Manager in key property issues including capital projects, customer service and refurbishment
  • Assist Manager to purchase, negotiate with supplies for materials and supplies
  • Be in charge of guesthouse renovation and refurbishment, including design, decoration, material purchasing, budge control and monitoring expenses
  • Ensures property, grounds, physical plant and work areas maintained to standard
  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly property inspections
  • Assign duties to staff and assistant to observer performance to ensure adherence to guesthouse polices and establish operating procedures.
  • Assist Manager to set up prices and monthly, or season promotion
  • Receives and resolve or assists the Manager in resolving guest complaints; Create guest satisfaction by seeking guest feedback
  • Selects or assist in the selection of staff; Train new staff
  • Review employee performance and report to Manager
  • Build strong working relationships and communications with guesthouse staff to ensure maximum operating effectiveness and fulfilment of special event need
  • Perform sudden audits on rooms and other operating areas
  • All other duties as assigned by the Manager

Employment Requirement:

  • Complete high school is required
  • Fluent in English is must, and Chinese is a bonus asset
  • Over 3-year work experience in hotel is required
  • Over 3 -year Work experience in property management, renovation or design is preferred
  • At least 5-year experience of management is required
  • Knowledge of business operation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Outstanding leadership skills and a great attention to details
  • Demonstrable aptitude in problem-solving
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
