Jewellery Hand Engraver (NOC 5244)

Job duties

Job duties include engraving of jewellery, primarily rings, for the purpose of mold making.  Must be proficient in hand push engraving, hammer and chisel technique, and pneumatic engraving.  Material used for mold engravings will primarily be silver and copper.  Gold, silver, titanium, platinum, and brass will be used for individual custom engravings of jewellery pieces or rings.

Terms of employment

Permanent, full-time (35 hours/week)

Expected Employment Start Date: October 1, 2022

Wage

$26.50/hour

Benefits

Employee will be entitled to 12 paid vacation days after 12 months of full-time employment.

Skills requirements – Education and Work experience

Education:

• Minimum one-year diploma by an accredited Canadian or international institution offering Hand Engraving accreditation
• Licensed as a Hand Engraver certified to engrave minted coins is optional, but preferred.

Work Experience:

• At least three years’ experience in engraving using the hand push technique, hammer and chisel technique, and pneumatic engraving.  Experienced in engraving multiple materials such as silver, copper, gold, platinum, titanium, and brass.  Experienced in engraving rings for mold making. 
• Skilled in polishing and finishing cast items such as rings, bracelets, pendants, necklaces, and other pieces of jewellery.  Proficient in acid etching of engraved pieces.  Experienced in lost wax casting, including wax casting using silicone molds, plus metal jewellery casting using vacuum and centrifugal casting techniques. 
• Being knowledgeable and experienced in the use of the Japanese Yasui Digital Vacuum Wax Injector machine is not a requirement but would be an asset.

Language requirements:

Spoken and written English required
