Carleton Memorial Daycare Center Inc. has an immediate opening for an Early Childhood Educator (NOC: 42202) at our location in Ottawa, Ontario.
As an Early Childhood Educator (NOC: 42202) you will perform some or all of the following duties:
● Plan a developmentally-appropriate program that supports and promotes the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development and well-being of children, while also implementing a daily routine (imbedded learning opportunities) for the children both indoors and outdoors. Activities must include the four foundations of learning from "How Does Learning Happen” (belonging, wellbeing, engagement & expression) along with The High Scope Foundation Key Experiences and opportunities for decision-making, problem-solving and choice. Plan activities and organize the environment to extend and expand child-directed learning experiences.
● Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comment that extend conversations.
● Seek out opportunities to recognize and celebrate new developmental achievements while recognizing and respecting cultural and familial differences.
● Use a warm, responsive and inclusive approach to building positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
● Observe and record all children's development and monitor for signs of potential learning or behavioural concerns. Keep parents apprised of their child's progress through documentation and
● reporting. Assess the abilities, interest and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with management, parents and classroom team.
● Use a variety of teaching techniques including modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, reinforcing and bridging.
● Monitor activities in order to enhance or modify them in order to meet the needs of individual differences. Guide and assist children in the development of daily routines.
● Build and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, parents/guardians volunteers, visitors, and community service providers.
● May plan and organize activities for kindergarten age children in after school programs before and after regular school hours.
● Create and maintain an engaging environment that conveys a sense of calm, order, consistency and continuity without being overly regimented, while also protecting the health and physical safety of the children.
● Develop and maintain a warm, comforting, caring and responsive relationship with each child and with the group of children, while maintaining confidentiality of all information related to any child or family.
● Complete a wide range of required paperwork such as but not limited to pedagogical documents, planning, reflective evaluations, etc.
● Utilize Lillio App on daily basis
● Must be able to demonstrate a view of children as "competent, capable of complex thinking, curious and rich in potential" as is described in how does learning happen.
● Ensure all policies, standards and regulations are adhered to at all times.
● May be required to open or close the center.
● Be flexible with shift changes and over-time in regards to ratios. Attend staff meetings
● Plan and carry out individual plan for your own development and learning practices.
● Report to the health and safety rep any indoor or outdoor environmental hazards.
● Report all accidents, injuries or any other health concerns to the supervisor or designate and record such incidents
● Stay up-to-date on all individual files with special monitoring of allergies, sensitivities and any other special medical conditions.
● Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the center's children, families and staff
● Participate in the annual performance review process.
Qualifications:
· Completion of an early childhood education assistant certificate program or post-secondary courses in early childhood education is required or equivalent 1-2 years of experience in relevant field is required.
· Multi-tasker, attention to detail, and effective time management.
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:
• Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
• First Aid Certificate
• CPR Certificate
