Responsibilities
Tasks
- Under the direction of the registered nursing personnel, ensure that the requirements of the Fixing Long Term Care Act and Regulations, Accreditation Canada and all Omni standards, policies and procedures are met.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures for accurate, timely reporting and recording of information related to resident care and other related matters.
- Provide input into the development and implementation of policies and procedures which reflect the philosophy of the home.
- Provide input to the Director of Care for the purchase of supplies and equipment for the department; support the department’s efforts to obtain maximum benefit from financial resources.
- Assist with the orientation of new employees as assigned.
- Provide registered nursing personnel with input for the development and maintenance of a current and appropriate plan of care for each resident.
- Provide recommendations for the content of the staff development program. Participate in 100% of all required education programs.
- Participate in Multidisciplinary Resident Care Conferences as assigned.
- Assist in meeting the needs of the residents by performing and or supporting the resident with the following tasks as assigned:
i. Assist with bathing (bed bath, tub, shower)
ii. Assist with personal grooming needs (hair care, nail care, shaving, dressing)
iii. Assist with oral hygiene (cleaning teeth, denture care, mouth washes)
iv. Assist with meal service (meal delivery, meal set up, clean up)
v. Ensure residents are served the correct therapeutic diet and texture at each meal service and nourishment pass.
vi. Assist with resident’s nutritional intake as required (provide supervision, encouragement, cueing, set up or total assistance)
vii. Provide between meal nourishments as directed.
viii. Assist resident with their individual toileting needs (from supervision to incontinence care) according to their plan of care.
ix. Collect specimens as required/directed.
x. Promptly respond to resident call bells and door alarms.
xi. Participate in and assist with nursing restorative/rehabilitative care programs as directed by the registered nursing staff in the home.
xii. Make beds, change bed linen, collect and bag soiled linen and deliver to laundry room.
xiii. Maintain a tidy, safe environment in resident rooms and activity areas.
xiv. Clean instruments and equipment as directed.
xv. Assist with activity and restorative care programs as assigned.
xvi. Document resident food and fluid intake daily as per the home’s policy. Notify registered staff of a change in resident’s regular eating habits and/or diet or texture tolerance.
xvii. Complete daily RAI-MDS documentation as directed. Seek support from the RAI Coordinator as required.
xviii. Provide individualized care to each resident based on their assessed needs and plan of care.xix. Demonstrate respect for the privacy, dignity and individuality of all residents in the performance of all duties. Adhere to the home policy on confidentiality.
xx. Provide encouragement and emotional support to residents on an ongoing basis.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement and Risk Management activities as directed by the Director of Care and the registered nursing staff.
- Perform all duties in accordance with infection control standards, policies and procedures.
- Ensure the maintenance of a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors; adhere to expectations that hazardous conditions and actions are promptly corrected and reported. Apply the principles and standards of Safety First, using consistency in the application of policies and procedures which have been developed to provide a safe work environment for all staff. Utilize personal protective devices in accordance with home policy.
- Provide assistance as directed to enhance the volunteer and public relations programs.
- Perform other duties as required.
