Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Assist the LEC to ensure that the requirements of the Fixing Long Term Care Act and Regulations, Accreditation Standards and all Omni standards, policies and procedures are met.
  • Assist with the appropriate utilization of all resources to support the home’s programming needs; provide input into the development of proposals for the annual operating budget.
  • Make recommendations for the provision of effective and responsive education programs; ensure that legislated standards for all mandatory education programs in life enrichment are met.  Demonstrate a commitment to the value of continuing education with participation in 100% of all required education programs.
  • Ensure the maintenance of a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors. Establish and enforce the expectation that hazardous conditions and actions are promptly reported and corrected.  Apply the principles and standards of Safety First, using consistency in the application of policies and procedures which have been developed to provide a safe work environment for all staff.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines to coordinate an efficient multidisciplinary system of admission, transfer and discharge which effectively meets the needs of residents, family members, staff and the community.  Participate in the admission interview to introduce the resident to the home and assess their needs and preferences including their physical, psychological, social, emotional and spiritual needs and interests.
  • Assist with the volunteer program as directed; assist the LEC to coordinate a program of volunteer activities which enhances services to residents.
  • Assist residents to coordinate the activities of the Resident Council and Family Council and provide support and assistance as requested by council.
  • Participate in an effective restorative care program which consistently applies the standards and principles of the Omni Supportive Measures program.
  • Participate in and assist with the physical therapy program in the home as required.
  • Provide input into service and product evaluations to ensure that they meet the required standards of safety and quality and effectively meet the needs of the residents.
  • Work collaboratively with the LEC to ensure a calendar of recreational and social activities that includes indoor and outdoor activities scheduled during daytime, evening and weekend hours is developed and made available to the residents and their families.
  • Provide assistance and support to facilitate resident’s participation in activities that may be of interest to them if they are not able to do so independently.
  • Utilize continuous quality improvement tools in order to ensure effective evaluation and continuous improvement of all aspects of care and services.
  • Utilize Risk Management tools as directed to effectively identify and support the management of actual and potential risks.
  • Participate in an effective team/committee structure in the life enrichment department.  Attend team meetings in accordance with established terms of reference.
  • Represent support and enthusiasm for the Omni core programs.
  • Participate in opportunities for professional development.
  • Assist with the orientation of new employees as assigned.
  • Provide the multidisciplinary team with input for the development and maintenance of a current and appropriate plan of care for each resident.
  • Perform other duties as required.
