Position Overview

The Senior Actuarial Analyst plays a key role in supporting Northbridge’s reserving and financial reporting functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring, assessing, and evaluating company and industry data to determine reserve adequacy. This role includes leading reserving analyses, preparing regulatory actuarial reports, and supporting broader financial reporting across the organization with minimal supervision.

This position reports to the Actuarial Management Team and regularly collaborates with cross-functional business partners.

Key Responsibilities

Actuarial Analysis & Reserving

  • Develop and verify data sources to ensure completeness, currency, and accuracy for actuarial analyses.
  • Perform adequacy analysis of loss and loss adjustment expense (LAE) reserves.
  • Develop reserve recommendations supported by industry-accepted methodologies and internal experience trends.

Financial Reporting & Regulatory Compliance

  • Prepare components of the Appointed Actuary Report, Financial Condition Testing (FCT) Report, and other required regulatory submissions.
  • Examine statutes, guidelines, and regulatory precedents to prepare appropriate supporting material.
  • Support company-wide financial and management reporting processes.

Modeling & Stress Testing

  • Maintain existing actuarial programs and develop new tools to support advanced reserving, stress testing, and scenario modeling.
  • Access and integrate multiple databases to analyze past experience and implement reserve reviews.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with claims, underwriting, finance, and other actuarial team members to communicate observed trends and insights.
  • Present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Leadership

  • Coach, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Contribute to building a high-performance actuarial team with strong analytical capability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics.
  • Significant progress toward ACAS/FCAS/FCIA designation strongly preferred.
  • At least three years of actuarial experience within property & casualty insurance, in reserving or financial reporting.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and actuarial/statistical tools (e.g., SQL, R, Python, SAS).
  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance concepts: loss development, reserving methods, stress testing, etc.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on complex actuarial assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior analysts is an asset.
