About AV General Contracting

AV General Contracting provides facility management and property maintenance services for commercial and residential clients. We are seeking an Accountant to oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and cost analysis in support of these operations.

Job  Duties:

  • Maintain and review the company’s general ledger and accounting records, ensuring financial transactions are accurately recorded and supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash-flow statements.
  • Complete month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expense calculations, and account reconciliations.
  • Establish and maintain cost-accounting records for property maintenance and facility-service contracts, including labour, supplies, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Analyze revenues, expenses, and profitability by client, property, and service contract, and recommend improvements to cost control and financial performance.
  • Prepare operating budgets and financial forecasts, taking into account seasonal service requirements, staffing costs, and equipment expenditures.
  • Monitor actual results against budgets, investigate variances, and prepare financial reports and recommendations for management.
  • Review service agreements to determine the appropriate accounting treatment of contract revenues, customer deposits, prepaid services, and accrued expenses.
  • Review customer invoices, accounts receivable, and outstanding balances; reconcile discrepancies and assess allowances for doubtful accounts.
  • Review supplier and subcontractor invoices, verify expense allocations, and oversee accounts payable reconciliations and payment schedules.
  • Review payroll calculations, employee deductions, employer contributions, and remittances, and ensure labour costs are allocated to the appropriate service contracts.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, company credit-card accounts, and other balance-sheet accounts, and investigate financial discrepancies.
  • Prepare cash-flow forecasts and monitor working capital to support payroll, supplier payments, and ongoing operating expenses.
  • Prepare applicable tax returns and remittance calculations, including GST/HST and payroll-related filings, and coordinate corporate income tax preparation with external tax advisers.
  • Maintain fixed-asset schedules and calculate depreciation for company vehicles, maintenance equipment, and other capital assets.
  • Develop and monitor accounting procedures and internal controls for invoicing, purchasing, expense approvals, payments, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Examine accounting records to identify errors, irregularities, and weaknesses in financial controls, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, and government reporting requirements.
  • Provide financial analysis to support service pricing, contract renewals, equipment purchases, staffing decisions, and business planning.

 

Job Requirements:

  • A university degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant accounting experience, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, budgeting, and cost analysis.
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, GST/HST reporting, and payroll deductions and remittances.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines and manage confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

·       Experience in construction, property maintenance, facility services, contracting, or another project/service-based business is considered an asset.
