Mechanical Estimator (22303)

Highland Equipment Inc. has an immediate opening for an experienced Construction Estimators (NOC: 22303) at our location in Mississauga, Ontario.

As a Construction Estimators (NOC: 22303) you will perform some or all of the following duties:

• Prepare and estimate budget costs for materials, fabrication, machining, welding, polishing, assembly, testing, and installation and commissioning of custom stainless steel process equipment and piping systems.
• Review customer specifications, engineering drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and project documentation to develop accurate project estimates.
• Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) by identifying raw materials, purchased components, and fabricated parts required for each project.
• Obtain, evaluate, and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, considering pricing, quality, lead times, and technical compliance. 
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for stainless steel materials, valves, pumps, instrumentation, fittings, and specialty components.
• Establish, manage, and maintain the tendering and bidding activities while ensuring timely submission of quotations. 
• Evaluate customer requests, project revisions, material substitutions, and scope changes to prepare updated cost estimates.
• Prepare written quotations, cost reports, budgets, and project summaries for management review and customer submission.
• Work closely with engineers, architects, project owners, and contractors on feasibility studies and ensure estimates meet customer specifications. Work closely with engineers, project managers, sales representatives, customers, contractors, and vendors to ensure estimates meet technical requirements.
• Coordinate with engineering and production teams to verify manufacturing feasibility and optimize project costs.
• Maintain estimating data, BOMs, quotations, and bid documentation within the company's ERP system while tracking bid status and submission deadlines
• Analyze historical project costs and estimate variances to improve estimating accuracy and future cost forecasting.
• Resolve cost discrepancies by analyzing data and collecting relevant project information.
• Stay up to date with safety codes, construction/manufacturing standards, and industry improvements.
• Assist in maintaining and updating a directory of suppliers, subcontractors, and contractors. Assist in maintaining supplier, subcontractor, and contractor databases for future procurement activities. 
• Manage and coordinate manufacturing projects and prepare manufacture progress schedules.

Qualifications:

• Completion of bachelor’s degree in civil or construction or mechanical engineering technology is required.
•  A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in construction estimating, Mechanical engineering/mechanical technology/technician or a related role is required.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and cost control.
• Proven Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage tight deadlines under pressure.

Terms of employment: Permanent, Full time (30 to 40 hours/week)

Compensation:  $38.50/hour
